Florian Fritsch was the big mover in the early stages of the final round of the 72° OPEN D'ITALIA presented by DAMIANI but all eyes will be on another German this afternoon at Golf Club Milano.
Fritsch set the clubhouse target at 13 under with a 65 as he posted five birdies on the back nine to go with three on the front and a single dropped shot on the fourth.
But that was four shots behind the lead held by countryman Martin Kaymer, Jens Fahrbring and Romain Wattel who were all yet to tee off.
While Fahrbring and Wattel are both seeking maiden European Tour titles, Kaymer is on the hunt for his 12th, although he has yet to win this year, and the two-time Major champion is delighted to be back at the business end on Sunday afternoon.
"It will be a challenge to myself and a challenge to beat my opponents," he said following a 65 on Saturday. "I am up there with a chance to win on Sunday and that's all you want at the end of the day.
"It's important that you don't look too far ahead and start to think about what could happen. You also don't want to rush into an aggressive mode too soon. It might be the case that some of the guys who are out before me make a really fast start so it is a fine line to figure out what the best plan is. You have to also enjoy the day and I think I have enough experience of being in this position to enjoy it.
"It will be interesting to see what happens over the first nine holes and to see how I feel mentally. Once you get on the back nine you have to be a bit more spontaneous and adjust to the situation around you."
Fritsch was not the only one taking advantage of a fourth day of glorious conditions in Monza with Merrick Bremner seven under for his round and a shot clear of the 29 year old with two holes to play.
Joakim Lagergren was also 14 under after reaching the turn in 31 while Danny Willett was a shot further back after making a birdie on the first.
