Levy joins Willett at Malaysia summit

Alexander Levy turned in 32 to reel in Danny Willett and share the lead as the Maybank Championship was set for a dramatic climax at Saujana Golf and Country Club.

The Englishman had entered the final round with a three-shot lead but could only turn in level par, allowing Levy to join him at 16 under courtesy of four birdies.

David Lipsky, Bernd Wiesberger and Fabrizio Zanotti were then two shots back at 14 under.

Levy made the first move with a birdie on the opening hole and after all three of the final group had gains on the par five third, Lipsky made it back-to-back birdies on the fourth.

Willett then played a poor tee-shot on the par three fifth, failing to get up and down, but a three-putt from Lipsky on the next kept the gap at two.

An approach to five feet on the seventh allowed Levy to get within one shot as he made a third birdie of the day.

Wiesberger was having a roller coaster of a day and had made an early move with birdies on the first, third and fourth before bogeying the fifth and sixth.

An eagle on the eighth then moved him to 14 under, alongside Lipsky and playing partner Zanotti, who had birdied the third, fifth, sixth and eighth.

Levy and Willett both took advantage of the par five eighth but the leader was behind a tree off the ninth tee and despite getting a fortunate bounce with his second shot, he could not get up and down and there was a tie at the top.

Anirban Lahiri picked up three shots in his first 11 holes to sit at 13 under alongside Panuphol Pittayarat, who turned in 34.

French duo Grégory Havret and Mike Lorenzo-Vera were then at 12 under, a shot clear of Li Haotong and K.T. Kim.
