Alexander Levy held a one-shot lead as the Trophée Hassan II was set for a dramatic conclusion at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.
The Frenchman entered the final round a shot behind Alvaro Quiros but he turned in 34 to get to eight under and lead the way by one shot from South African playing partner Erik van Rooyen.
Quiros was then at six under alongside Swedish duo Alexander Björk and Joakim Lagergren, Finn Mikko Ilonen and England's Andy Sullivan.
Levy is a four-time winner on the European Tour with the last of those victories coming at last season's Volvo China Open, a title he will defend next week in Beijing.
For Van Rooyen, victory would be his first on the European Tour but he won last season on the Challenge Tour en route to finishing third in the Rankings and earning his card.
Björk made a birdie-birdie start and when playing partner Austin Connelly also birdied the second, there were six players within a shot of the lead.
Björk's birdie run ended with a bogey on the third but Connelly made it back-to-back gains to join Quiros at the summit and when the 35 year old bogeyed the second, the rookie led on his own.
Levy then made his first birdie of the day on the third and moved into a share of top spot.
Ilonen bogeyed the third to drop alongside Björk and Sullivan, who was making a move with birdies on the second and fifth.
Lagergren had a birdie on the first and a bogey on the fourth but an eagle on the fifth catapulted him up the leaderboard.
Levy got on the green at the par five fifth in two for a birdie and the solo lead, with playing partner Van Rooyen also making a birdie after a nice chip to move into second and leapfrog Connelly who bogeyed the sixth.
Quiros briefly got back to seven under as he made the most of the par five but he gave the shot straight back on the sixth after a poor chip.
Levy went over the back of the green at the seventh and played a poor chip of his own to drop back into a share, with Björk chipping in at the eighth to get within one.
Sullivan then joined the group in second as he took the brave line over the water on the par three ninth and left himself four feet for birdie.
Levy was soon back in the lead after leaving himself a short chip in to the eighth and he got up and down for a birdie, with Ilonen also taking advantage of the par five in the group behind.
Connelly dropped another shot on the eighth to drop to five under alongside Dutchman Joost Luiten, who had a single birdie in ten holes, and Italian Andrea Pavan who was five under for the day through 14.
