Spencer Levin holds a three stroke halfway lead at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona on another day hampered by darkness.
An eagle on the 17th, coming from the bunker, provided the boost required to seize the lead as he parred the last for an eight under par round of 63 and a healthy advantage over his rivals.
"Hopefully, I can just keep trying to believe in myself and just keep trying to make my swing, and we'll see what happens," Levin said.
"I'm going to give it my best shot. It should be fun. I'm looking forward to it."
On another day truncated by darkness, Harrison Frazar was six under, 11 under overall, with three left to play.
World Number Six Webb Simpson, who had led after the first round, was third on eight under after a 69, alongside John Huh (66).
"That was probably the darkest I've ever played," Simpson said. "I couldn't really see anything."
Phil Mickelson produced a 70 to see him four under after a bogey and double bogey on the front nine was atoned for with four birdies on the way home.
"The front nine, I don't know what to say. I mean, it was just terrible," he said. "I was able to kind of self-correct it a little bit for the back to shoot four under and turn it around.
"It's not what I was hoping for going into the day, but I'm looking forward to playing the weekend and seeing if I can light it up."
