Legend Tom Watson set for KLM Open

Tom Watson, one of the greatest golfers of all time, has confirmed he will play in next month’s KLM Open.

Tom Watson

The eight-time Major winner, has joined a strong field for the €1.8 million event at Kennemer Golf and Country Club, adding his name to a line-up which also includes European Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke, Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, Frenchman Victor Dubuisson and young English stars Tommy Fleetwood and Eddie Pepperell.

Watson came close to adding a ninth Major at the 2009 Open Championship, and earlier this summer he made his last appearance in golf’s oldest Major, waving goodbye to a tournament he won five times.

Now he is excited about making his debut visit to the Netherlands, saying: “The reputation of Kennemer made my decision really easy. It’s a world top 100 golf course and I just hope my old game is up to the task of playing such a wonderful course.

“I’m looking forward to it. It will be my first time to the Netherlands. I certainly know a little bit about the history of it, and it’s actually part of the history of golf, as it started there.”

Home favourite Joost Luiten, who won the title in 2013, is also among the notable names in the field, as is Dane Søren Kjeldsen and Frenchman Alexander Levy.

Tickets for the KLM Open are available from the online ticket shop, with discounts for advance purchases.
