Langer storms to victory at Greystone

Bernhard Langer secured his 27th PGA TOUR Champions title with a six-stroke victory in the Regions Tradition at Greystone Golf & Country Club.

The German, who has 42 European Tour titles and four European Senior Tour titles to his name, carded a final round 67 to finish ahead of Olin Browne, in second place, and Tommy Armour III, who shot a 66, with Joey Sindelar and Kirk Triplett tied in third.

Langer started the final round four shots clear and promptly birdied the first, before finishing in style with five birdies in the last seven holes.

“We’re out here and the clock is ticking. We’re trying to make the best of it,” Langer said. “I love the game of golf. I love to compete. I’m very blessed with good health, a reasonable technique and a solid mind.

“I have a wonderful family that’s behind me, and a lot of people who surround me and give me strength.”

Browne said: “He’s a consummate course management guy. He absolutely refuses to give an inch, he charts the course better than anybody else, he plays to his strengths and he’s tenacious.”

Langer is chasing a Senior Major Grand Slam which he would secure with a win in this week’s US Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores, Michigan.

Scotsman Colin Montgomerie finished four under par, tied for 17th with fellow Senior Tour member David Frost, while Esteban Toledo carded a final round 71 for a three under par total.
