Langer off to flying start

Bernhard Langer’s chances of an incredible third Masters Tournament title on the 20th anniversary of collecting his second Green Jacket were boosted by a fantastic start to his final round.

The 55 year old German set off with a hat-trick of birdies at Augusta National to charge to five under par – only two behind leaders Angel Cabrera and Brandt Snedeker, who were just teeing off.

Langer was up into a share of fourth as a result; Australian Jason Day holed a 30 foot putt at the first to reach six under.

Lee Westwood, playing with former Senior Open Champion Langer, could have made an even bigger move but missed six footers at the first two holes for birdie and eagle and as a result was only one under for the day through three.

At three under he still had every chance, and was alongside World Number One Tiger Woods, American Matt Kuchar and South African Tim Clark.
