Langer loses in play-off to Perry

Bernhard Langer missed out on further success on the US Champions Tour, losing in a play-off to Kenny Perry in the AT&T Championship.

The Senior Tour member closed with a 67 to finish on 13 under par 203 on TPC San Antonio's AT&T Canyons Course, which was matched by Perry who holed an 18ft putt on the last to save par.

The pair returned to the 18th hole and it was US Open Perry who made a 10 foot birdie putt to extend his lead in the Charles Schwab Cup and continue his fine season, having also won the US Senior Open in July.

"I made clutch putts just to even hang in there with him," said Perry. "The putter saved me."

Langer also lost a playoff last year in the event, falling to David Frost on the second extra hole.

"I don't feel all that bad," Langer said. "I played really good golf and kept my emotions in check. I was pretty relaxed. I have no regrets whatsoever. It just turned out that one person in the field beat me in the play-off. There's not much I can do about that."

Fred Funk, Colin Montgomerie and Kirk Triplett tied for third, two shots back. Funk shot 67, Triplett had a 68 and Montgomerie a 69.

It was Montgomerie’s best finish in ten starts on the Champions Tour this year. The Scot led for a portion of Sunday’s final round after starting with birdies on five of his first six holes, but made four bogeys on the back nine to finish two back of the playoff.

Swede Anders Forsbrand share sixth place with American pair Russ Cochran and John Riegger on nine under par.
