Bernhard Langer insists it is only a matter of time before an over-50 wins a Major, and the German hopes to be the man to do it at Augusta National tomorrow.
The 55 year old German, who won the second of his Green Jackets 20 years ago, leads the European challenge alongside Lee Westwood at the Masters Tournament after a level par 72.
"I say it's going to happen that a senior player is going to win a Major...it's going to happen sooner or later," said Senior Tour Member Langer.
"I said it's very difficult to win on a long golf course like this and I still stick to that.
"Tom Watson almost did it obviously on a little shorter golf course (The 2009 Open at Turnberry), Fred Couples can do it any given moment, and there's a few of us that might do it, too. It's going to happen sooner or later."
Langer, who won The Senior Open Championship in 2010 and is expected to try and regain the title at Royal Birkdale later in the year, had just one bogey and a solitary bogey in his round to remain on two under par.
That was five behind on-course leaders Jason Day and Brandt Snedeker as they came toward the end of their rounds.
