Langer claims tenth title in the States

European Senior Tour Member Bernhard Langer won the rain-affected Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am on the US Champions Tour title at the expense of his close friend Mark O’Meara.

The German shot a nine under par aggregate total of 133 over the first two days at TPC Tampa Bay, and when the rain washed out the final round Langer was declared the winner for the tenth time on the US Champions Tour.

O’Meara and his fellow American Mike Reid finished in a tie for second place on eight under par.

“We don't know what the outcome might have been if we had been able to play 54 holes,” said Langer, who spent most of the three-hour rain delay playing card games with his family.

“But the bottom line is that it’s another second place for Mark so I feel bad for him that he hasn’t won yet, because he’s definitely played well enough to do so.”

The final pairing managed to get on the course before the rain became unbearable, with Langer making par on the first hole whilst O’Meara chipped in for a birdie which saw them tied them at nine under par.

“I walked over and gave him a high-five,” Langer said. “You get some good and bad breaks, but it was still a great shot.”

Langer himself got a good break on Saturday, when his approach to the final green hit the flag and dropped next to the hole. He calmly made the putt for a birdie which gave him a one-shot lead and ultimately the title.

Langer remains in second place in the standings behind Fred Couples, who finished in a tie for 12th place on four under par.
