Langer claims 26th Champions Tour title

Bernhard Langer captured his 26th title on the US Champions Tour with a wire-to-wire victory in the Chubb Classic.

In just his third start with his new, non-anchored putting style, Langer suggested that 2016 will be service as normal with a one over par 73 for a three stroke victory from Fred Couples, who closed with a round of 66.

Langer’s started the final round seven strokes clear after opening rounds of 62 and 66, and his 15 under par total was enough to give him victory at TwinEagles for the third time after previous successes in 2011 and 2013.

The 58 year old moved into third place on the all-time list of Champions Tour winners, behind Hale Irwin (45) and Lee Trevino (29).

Rivals thought might have stolen a march when at the start of the year Langer had to change the anchored putting stroke that had served him so well in the Senior ranks, but on this evidence the German appears to be adjusting well.

"Whenever you make a drastic change or a change of some sort, you never know," said Langer, who used a long putter. "I'm 58 now, so if you look at the statistics, a lot of guys don't win when they're near 60. But I still think I have some good golf left in me and I'm glad the way I putted this week was probably better than I putted many weeks last year when I was anchored.

"That gives me hope that I can probably pursue with this style and still do very, very well."
