Lagergren closes on Dredge in Farsø

Joakim Lagergren turned in 34 to cut Bradley Dredge's lead to one shot on day three of the Made in Denmark.

Dredge came into the third round at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort with a three-shot advantage and a formidable record having finished second and sixth in the first two stagings of this event.

He could not move on from 13 under, however, and three birdies and a bogey from Lagergren made it tight at the top in northern Denmark.

Portuguese Ricardo Gouveia was then at 11 under, a shot clear American David Lipsky and Belgium's Thomas Pieters.

Lagergren birdied the second and third and when Dredge had to take a drop after a wild second shot on the next, the duo were level at 12 under.

The Swede made an excellent par save on the fifth and both men then extended the gap to the rest of the field as they got up and down for birdies on the sixth - Dredge playing a brilliant bunker shot - but Gouveia was surging through the pack.

The 2015 Road to Oman winner turned in 31 with birdies on the first, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth and when he made another on the 11th, he was just a shot off the lead. However, a first bogey of the day was to follow on the 12th and Lagergren soon dropped a shot with a three-putt on the ninth.

Pieters arrived in Farsø off the back of two top fives and looking to impress Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke and earn himself a pick on Tuesday.

The Belgian started birdie-bogey-birdie but then got in trouble on the fourth green and recorded a double-bogey despite getting on in two. He had to show all his battling qualities on Friday in a 71 and did the same again, making a birdie on the next and another on the sixth after an exquisite chip.

Lipsky had three birdies and a bogey in his first 12 holes to sit alongside Pieters as he looks to follow up on a top ten last week in Prague.

Ireland's Paul Dunne and Spaniard Adrian Otaegui were then at nine under, a shot ahead of Martin Kaymer.

Kaymer is another man looking for a Captain's pick and he set the clubhouse target at eight under thanks to an impressive 66.

The German turned in 30 thanks to four birdies and an eagle on the sixth and when he picked up another shot on the 12th, he was into double figures. But three bogeys would follow in the next four holes to drop him away for the leaders.

Thomas Aiken, Chris Hanson, Edoardo Molinari, Oliver Wilson and Jeff Winther were then all at seven under.

Dane Sebastian Cappelen delighted the local crowd on Himmerland Hill as he made the second hole-in-one of the week at the 16th, holing a pitching wedge from 96 yards.
