Koivu excited to start European Tour adventure

Kim Koivu is excited to be starting life as a full European Tour Member this week at the Omega European Masters.

The Finn's recent victory at the Rolex Trophy was his third of the season on the Challenge Tour, earning him an instant place on the European Tour.

It's been a roller coaster season for the 27 year old who won the Belt & Road Colorful Yunnan Open 2018 in April but then missed eight of his next ten cuts before making the weekend at the Porsche European Open.

He then sandwiched a made cut at the Nordea Masters with Challenge Tour victories at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge and Rolex Trophy to follow in the footsteps of Aaron Rai, who won three times on the Challenge Tour in 2017.

It's been very quick, I didn't expect it. I expected to win once this year but not three times, obviously that was a big bonus - Kim Koivu

Koivu now has at least six events to get used to life on the European Tour, starting this week at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, and he cannot wait to get going.

“I'm very excited,” he said. “I took a week's rest, I had a five week stretch before the Rolex Trophy and now I'm here so I'm very excited.

“It's been very quick, I didn't expect it. I expected to win once this year but not three times, obviously that was a big bonus. I get to play some of these events and then get ready for next year.

“If I don't get to top 60 which is very far away then I'll play the last event in the Challenge Tour but now I've just got these six events in my mind.”
