KLM Open: Day 1 in numbers

The KLM Open is one of the oldest events on The European Tour. It was first played in 1912 and is one of only seven tournaments to be played every year since The European Tour’s first season in 1972. 156 players teed it up today and 101 shot par or better. Here's a look at some of the other interesting facts and figures from today's play.

61- The 18-hole lead, set by Paul Lawrie and, late on, Wade Ormsby, tying the lowest 18 hole score this season

1,916 - Rounds played by Lawrie on The European Tour in his career, having never previously shot lower than 63.

65.4 - Lawrie's average opening round score over his last five events. The 1999 Open Champion is 28 under par over those round.

3 - Major stats categories in which Ormsby ranked inside the top ten in the first round. The Australian was T1 in Driving Accuracy (12/13 fairways hit), T3 in Greens in Regulation (16) and T6 in Putts per Round (25)

29- Shots under par for Joost Luiten in his last nine rounds at Kennemer Golf and Country Club. The local favourite shot an opening round 63.

18- Greens in Regulation for last week's M2M Russian Open winner Lee Slattery. The Englishman continued his good form with an opening round 66.

4- Putts missed all day by Estanislao Goya, who finished runner up to Slattery last week. The Argentine needed just 22 putts in total en route to his opening round 63.

31 - European Tour titles between the top ten after a high quality first day in Zandvoort

69- Tom Watson's opening round score - just three shots more than his age

17- Holes-in-one for Tom Watson over his career, including one in yesterday's practice round. Although, the five-time Open Champion told us he's never received a hole-in-one prize. Well Tom, there's still three rounds to go.

58- Per cent of Fantasy Race To Dubai users have Martin Kaymer in their team. The German opened with a round of 67. The next most popular pick is Joost Luiten at 32 per cent

69.34- Average score today. 1.96 shots fewer than last year's opening round average of 71.3.
