Kisner and Johnson stay in front

American pair Kevin Kisner and Zach Johnson remained locked at the top of the leaderboard as they got to the turn on day three of the 147th Open Championship.

The halfway leaders began the day one stroke clear of the chasing pack on six under par but saw their advantage wiped out before teeing off in the final group at 16.00.

Kisner took the outright lead with a birdie at the third before picking up another shot at the long sixth to get to eight under.

Johnson got his third round off to a disappointing start, dropping a shot at the fourth to slip back to five under.

But he made amends in style, holing from 60 feet for an eagle at the sixth before following that up by sinking his long birdie putt at the next to join Kisner at the summit.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth and his countryman Xander Schauffele were one shot behind the co-leaders in a tie for third.

An eagle from eight feet at the first propelled Spieth into contention and he made further gains at the fourth and 11th to sit one stroke behind Kisner and Johnson.

Schauffele, meanwhile, dropped a shot at the second before reeling off three straight birdies from the fifth.

Italy's Francesco Molinari was the leader in the clubhouse at six under after producing a flawless 65 on day three.

Alex Noren, Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood were also on six under as they made their way down the stretch.

Tiger Woods shot a third-round 66 to join fellow American Webb Simpson on five under, while Zander Lombard, Erik van Rooyen, Kevin Chappell and Pat Perez were also on that mark with several holes still to play.

Earlier in the day Justin Rose had posted a brilliant 64 - his lowest Major Championship round - to move to four under, having only made the cut courtesy of a birdie at the 18th on Friday.
