Kim and McGuirk pull clear

Korea’s Sihwan Kim fired two birdies in his opening six holes to join Englishman Francis McGuirk at the top of the leaderboard as the second round of the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open began.

Having shot a bogey-free, seven under par 65 on Thursday, Florida-based Kim started on the back nine on Friday and quickly found the rhythm he had exhibited during a stellar opening salvo at Golf & Spa Kunetická Hora on Thursday.

After starting with a pair of pars from the tenth, Kim made an opening birdie at the par four 12th, before a further gain at the 14th sent the 24 year old to nine under par, alongside overnight co-leader McGuirk.

With Spaniard Adrian Otaegui, who matched the Sutton man’s first round 64 to capture a share of the lead, not teeing off until 1400 local time, McGuirk picked up where he left off on Thursday with birdie at the opening par four first hole.

His only dropped shot of the tournament thus far came at the fifth to see him briefly back to eight under par, before a birdie at the par five seventh took him back to the top on nine under par alongside Kim.

Welshmen Oliver Farr and Garry Houston were one shot further back at an overcast but pleasant Kuneticka Hora as the second morning progressed, having both reached three under through 12 and nine holes respectively.

The biggest mover of the morning was Iceland’s Birgir Hafthorsson, who turned in a four under par 32  to get within two of the lead.
