The popular Northern Irishman, given a huge ovation by the 22,703 strong Killarney crowd, marked his 32nd birthday on Saturday by receiving two surprise birthday cakes.

First he was received a giant cake from the staff of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club, before being presented with another by Michael Nugent, Sales and Marketing Director of BMW Ireland, the Official Car of the Irish Open presented by Discover Ireland.

“I think I'm going to have a bit of dinner in Killarney with my family tonight and spend a bit of time with them, and who knows, I might have a celebratory pint,” said McDowell, of his plans for a birthday bash.

The joint winner of The 2010 European Tour Golfer of The Year is level with his close friend Rory McIlroy going into Sunday’s final round on three under par for the tournament in a share of 32nd position.
