Rock superstars Kenney Jones, Sir Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood all helped to raise a grand total of £200,000 for the Prostate Project at the 2019 BMW PGA Championship Gala Dinner – which featured a special live performance from the trio.

It was a truly special occasion at Wentworth Club on Saturday September 14, as Jones, Stewart and Wood all took to the stage for a one-off performance prior to the main fundraising event – an auction which featured some memorable artefacts and experiences.

The Prostate Project is a charity close to Jones’ heart, the former drummer of the Small Faces and The Who having been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2013, while Stewart also discussed his battle with prostate cancer on the night.

“It was an incredibly humbling and heart-warming experience to host the BMW PGA Championship Gala Dinner and raise so much money for a charity to which I owe a huge amount,” said Jones. “The fund-raising effort on the night was immense and the evening helped create more awareness for the incredible work the Prostate Project does day-in, day-out.

“I would like to thank Jamie Birkmyre and the BMW PGA Championship for making the night happen, but most importantly, I would like to thank everyone who attended for their generosity and support.”

Jamie Birkmyre, Championship Director of the BMW PGA Championship, said: “We were truly honoured to host Kenney Jones, Sir Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood in September and support them in their efforts to raise money for such a worthy cause as the Prostate Project.

“This was without doubt one of the most special nights we have ever seen at the BMW PGA Championship and I’m sure those in attendance were treated to memories that will last a lifetime. The generosity and goodwill shown on the night was remarkable and our thanks go to everyone involved.”

Professor Stephen Langley, Professor & Clinical Director of Urology at Royal Surrey County Hospital, said: “The BMW PGA Championship Gala Dinner really was a magical occasion and – as a Trustee of the Prostate Project – it was particularly special to see such kindness and warmth in the room among those in attendance.

“Prostate cancer is unfortunately the leading cancer killer of men in the UK with over 40,000 men being diagnosed each year with the disease and sadly over 12,000 dying from it. When caught early, however, it is readily treatable and curable, and the funds raised at the Gala Dinner will help the Prostate Project to continue in its goal of giving men a better chance of beating prostate cancer.”
