Kennedy moves into contention

England’s Lloyd Kennedy is making his move in the final round of the Mugello Tuscany Open as he attempts to catch joint overnight leader Floris De Vries.

UNA Poggio dei Medici Golf Club

Kennedy birdied the third, fifth and sixth holes at UNA Poggio dei Medici Golf Club to reach the turn in three under par 32 and move to six under par for the tournament.

The 25 year old is in good form after finishing tied ninth in the last event, the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d’Armor Bretagne and is on track to better that in Italy.

Dutchman De Vries is out on his own at the top of the leaderboard after moving to eight under par, following birdies on the second and eighth hole, although he did drop a shot on the seventh.

The 20 year old is chasing is maiden European Challenge Tour title as he attempts to follow in the footsteps on compatriots Wil Besseling and Taco Remkes, who both won in 2008.

German Nicolas Meitinger, who had been tied with De Vries at the start of the day, fell back to three under par after dropping four shots on his front nine with bogeys on the second and fifth holes and a double bogey six on the seventh.

That hole also proved the undoing of Swedish pair Peter Gustaffson and Joel Sjöholm, who had both looked like mounting challenges until they also double bogeyed it. Gustaffson had earlier eagled the third hole and birdied the fifth to move to within one shot of De Vries.
