Kaymer wins Shot of the Month for August

Martin Kaymer, a member of the successful European Ryder Cup Team at The Celtic Manor Resort, has won The European Tour Shot of the Month for the second time this season for his fearless par putt on the 72nd hole of the USA PGA Championship in August.

The 25 year old German showed nerves of steel to hole out on the 18th green at Whistling Straits and force a play-off with American Bubba Watson, who had earlier set the clubhouse target on 11 under par 277.

Kaymer then saw off Watson at the end of the subsequent three hole play-off to capture his maiden Major Championship and seal his first Ryder Cup appearance.

Second place in the August contest went to Kaymer’s European team-mate in Wales, Edoardo Molinari of Italy, for his long birdie putt on the 17th green in the final round of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles; while another Ryder Cup hero, Spaniard Miguel Angel Jiménez, took third place for his glorious approach shot to the 16th hole on the last day of the Czech Open.

The Shot of the Month is awarded to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the best played each month on The European Tour International Schedule. At the end of the season, the winning shot from each month will be nominated for The European Tour Shot of the Year Award.

The monthly winners to date in 2010 have been Kaymer (January and August), the English trio of Ian Poulter (February), Lee Westwood (April) and Luke Donald (May), Noh Seung-yul of Korea (March), Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland (June) and Jiménez (July).
