Kaymer has fond memories of Sheshan

Martin Kaymer will have plenty of cause of optimism when he returns to Sheshan International Golf Club for the WGC-HSBC Champions, from October 31-November 3.

The German claimed his tenth and latest European Tour title at the Shanghai venue when the tournament was last played there two years ago.

With Europe’s Ryder Cup hero of 2012 returning to top form in recent months, he will be looking to mount another challenge at this year’s event.

The 2010 US PGA Champion carded a superb closing round of 63, including a back nine of 29 strokes, to overhaul a five shot deficit and win by three shots from Fredrik Jacobson in 2011, completing an HSBC double that year after also winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship earlier in the season.

It was a record final round comeback in a WGC event and with the tournament returning to Sheshan International Golf Club after being played at Mission Hills Golf Club last year, Kaymer will be hoping his fond memories of that victory can inspire a similar performance.

Kaymer recorded a top ten finish in the previous WGC event of 2013, sharing ninth position in the WGC-Bridgestone International, and was tied seventh in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
