Kaymer confirmed for Andalucía Masters

Germany’s Martin Kaymer has confirmed his appearance in the Andalucía Masters, held at Club de Golf Valderrama from October 27-30, a course Kaymer describes as “one of his favourites”.

The current World Number Four added January’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship to his eight other European Tour titles, including a famous US PGA victory in 2010 where the German claimed his maiden Major after defeating American Bubba Watson in a three-hole playoff at Whistling Straits.

Kaymer was also part of the winning European Ryder Cup team at Celtic Manor and succeeded Lee Westwood as The Race to Dubai Champion after ending the season with a record €4,461,011 in tournament earnings.  A brief stint as World Number One followed in February 2011 after he reached the final of the WGC-Accenture Match Play, in doing so confirming his status as one of golf’s biggest stars.

Of the forthcoming Andalucía Masters, Kaymer, 26, said: “I look forward to playing again at Valderrama, which for me is one of the most beautiful courses in the world and certainly one of my favourites.

“I played well the last few seasons but I’m always working on my game because no matter what level you get to with golf, you never reach perfection.  The US PGA win was a big boost to my confidence, it helped me believe in myself and proved that I was taking the right steps in my career."

Following Bernhard Langer's example, Kaymer is intent on making golf popular in Germany, as Boris Becker and Steffi Graf did with tennis, and said: “I know it will take time, but hopefully this dream will come true.”

The Autonomous Government of Andalusia is the owner of the tournament rights and the main sponsor of the Andalucía Masters, whose organization and promotion has been entrusted to Octagon and GFC Golf and Business, two well respected sports marketing companies.
