Jumeirah, and specifically its official host hotel Madinat Jumeirah, has been associated with golf in DUBAi since 2006 and the extension of their partnership reflects on the company's commitment to promoting Dubai as a global destination to international audiences.

With the 21 year old golfing star Rory McIlroy, who won his maiden European Tour title when he won the Desert Classic in 2009, as their global ambassador, Jumeirah Group believes the development of golf has always been an essential ingredient in the growth of Dubai as a destination for international investment and tourism.

"We believe that golf in DUBAi plays an important role in the development and promotion of the game in our city. We are proud to be associated with them, and the quality of professional golfers and spectator experience that they bring to Dubai,” said Thatcher Brown, Vice President of Brand Strategy & Management, Jumeirah Group.

Today, if the name of Dubai has become synonymous with golf – a great deal of the city's popularity as a golf destination is due to the success of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the longest-running European Tour event in the Middle East.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, commented: "The Omega Dubai Desert Classic provides a worldwide exposure for the city of Dubai, in general, and the sponsors in particular, creating interest for people to visit Dubai.

"Thanks to Jumeirah, the players always have a wonderful opportunity to savour the incomparable hospitality standards of the region," he added. The Omega Dubai Desert Classic will be played at the Emirates Golf Club from February 8 - 13.

'golf in DUBAi' is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are: CNN, Gulf News, Emirates Airline, Emirates NBD, Jumeirah, Mercedes-Benz and wasl while Dubai Duty Free, Carpetland and Motivate are the Patrons in golf in DUBAi's drive to showcase the emirate's vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
