Jimmy Hitchcock, a former British Masters champion who represented Great Britain and Ireland at The 1965 Ryder Cup, died on Christmas Day aged 85.
The Englishman claimed many victories in his time as a professional golfer, including the 1960 British Masters at Sunningdale Golf Club, where European Tour founding member John Jacobs and the late Major winners Bobby Locke and Max Faulkner were the runners-up.
Born in Bromley, Kent, Hitchcock played his way onto Harry Weetman’s 1965 Ryder Cup team at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, where he was defeated by none other than Arnold Palmer in the morning singles matches, before falling to three-time Major winner Julius Boros in the afternoon singles as the USA won 19½-12½.
Hitchcock passed away in Belgium, where he had resided for many years, and is survived by his wife Stephanie. His funeral took place on December 30.
