Jiménez joins Luiten in the lead

A hat-trick of birdies saw Miguel Angel Jiménez catch Joost Luiten at the top of the KLM Open leaderboard as the final round began in Zandvoort.

In conditions far more sedate than Saturday’s wet and windy offering, Jiménez highlighted the scoring opportunities available with three gains in succession from the second.

That took the Spaniard, looking to break his own record as The European Tour’s oldest winner, level with Luiten on 12 under par.

The Dutchman had birdied the third and fifth as he looks to become the first home winner of the event for a decade.

Three-time winner Simon Dyson – who recorded two of those victories here at Kennemer – had four birdies in his first five holes to join France’s Julien Quesne a shot behind the leading pair.
