Jiménez excited by China challenge

Miguel Angel Jiménez believes he is hitting form at the right time as he returns to a happy hunting ground at the Volvo China Open this week.

The 52 year old has an outstanding record in the Far East, winning the Hong Kong Open four times and also claiming victory at the BMW Asian Open in 2004.

Topwin Golf and Country Club in Beijing will play host to a European Tour event for the first time and Jiménez is happy to be playing in the capital of the most populous country on earth.

"It's nice to be back here," he said. "It's my first time to a tournament in Beijing so I feel really good here and I am looking forward to playing. I have won several times in Hong Kong and I have won in China too – it's a great place to be.

"My game is good. I had a struggle in the last few months but I got a win on the Champions Tour in America and I'm starting to feel better on the greens. I holed a few more putts, and that will help me to get my game together on the course."

The Spaniard - a 21-time winner on the European Tour - has had a slow start to the season by his own lofty standards but finished in a tie for 13th at last week's Shenzhen International and feels he is finding some form.

"It's a nice event here and looks very well organised," he said. "The golf course is a good one, where you have a very nice mix of long holes and short holes.

"The greens are very difficult, you still have to be on the right places on the greens if you don't want to be in trouble. It is in very good condition too and I am ready to play this week.

I am young, that's how I keep going! I love what I do and I love to compete and I want to keep doing that - Miguel Angel Jiménez

"I have obviously been playing the Champions Tour and I mix between the two. I still miss the events out here on the European Tour.

"I will keep competing here as much as I can, as long as I'm playing well. If that stops happening, I will say goodbye.

"I feel good right now, I've been hitting the ball well again. I have a bit more confidence now and my putter has started working again, the stroke is coming back. I feel good and I hope I can give myself a chance to compete at the weekend."
