Jensen joins Danish charge in Lübker

Dane Lasse Jensen carded a three under par 69 to move into contention in the ECCO Tour Championship presented by Thomas Björn and Mercedes Benz, joining countryman Lasse Sonne Nielsen in a six way tie for third after the conclusion of a weather delayed first round in Denmark.

Jensen was forced to finish his opening round on Thursday morning after a delay of three hours 20 minutes on Wednesday due to lightning but the interruption did not adversely affect a stunning back nine which included three consecutive birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th.

The 26 year old, who currently lies 58th in the European Challenge Tour rankings, will be hoping to better his season-best finish at the Mugello Tuscany Open in Florence in May, when he finished tied sixth.

He is level with compatriot Nielsen, whose only bogey of the first round came on the final hole on Wednesday night following the weather suspension.

Jensen will head straight back out to begin his second round at Lübker Golf Resort hoping to close the gap on leading pair Alessandro Tadini and Pierre Relecom.

Italian Tadini posted a flawless six under par 66 before the lightning, a total which was matched by Belgian Relecom who finished off his final three holes on Wednesday evening with a par, a birdie and a bogey when play resumed.

Sitting alongside the Danish pair in a tied for third place are Englishmen Steven Tiley and James Hepworth and Dutchman Wil Besseling.

Challenge Tour Rankings leader Ricardo Santos also remains poised for a shot at the title, with the Portuguese tied for eighth after a two under par opening round of 70.

The second round will not be finish on Thursday with the final group teeing off at 16.40hrs. As a result the cut will be made on Friday morning.
