Singh is India’s most successful golfer with four European Tour titles and six on the Asian Tour, and he captained Asia in the recent EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM.

The 44 year old said: “I’m looking forward to playing in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open for the first time in May. I have heard so much about the destination following the staging of the inaugural event last season and I hope to have a great week there, both on and off the golf course.

“As professional golfers, we are privileged to have the opportunity to travel and compete at exciting and exotic destinations, and I would like to thank the sponsors for supporting professional golf at the highest level. It will be another great week having the best players from the Asian Tour, European Tour and Sunshine Tour competing in Mauritius.”

Singh, one of Asia’s most decorated and global players, is a two-time Asian Tour number one and was conferred an honorary Asian Tour membership in 2009. In 2008 he hit top form by winning the Bank Austria Golf Open and Sega Sammy Cup in Japan, but his biggest triumph of that season came at the Barclays Singapore Open. Victory helped him become the first man in Asian golf history to win over US$1 million during a season, eventually earning US$1.45 million which stands as a Tour record.

Kyi Hla Han, Commissioner of the Asian Tour, said: “It is fantastic news that Jeev Milkha Singh has signed up for the 2016 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Having won two Asian Tour Order of Merit crowns and numerous other titles in Asia, Japan and Europe, Jeev is certainly one of Asia’s living golf legends, and his presence in Mauritius will certainly add great value to the prestigious tournament.”
