Jamieson starts well in India

Scott Jamieson moved into an early lead as the Avantha Masters began at DLF Golf & Country Club in New Delhi.

After finishing tied fifth in last week’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the 28 year old Scot continued his good form with five birdies and a single dropped shot over his opening 13 holes.

At four under par Jamieson, who finished an impressive 59th on The Race to Dubai during his rookie year in 2011, led by one from Swede Oscar Floren, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and home trio Vivek Bhandari, Shamim Khan and Anirban Lahiri.

Iskandar Johor Open champion Joost Luiten was among those a shot further back on two under.

Jamieson finished third three times last season but is still to enjoy his maiden European Tour victory, and started with a birdie at the first.

That was followed by a bogey at the next, but further gains at seventh, ninth, 11th and 13th put him on course to set the clubhouse target.

Defending champion S S P Chowrasia, two-time Major winner John Daly and former US Open Championship runner-up Gregory Havret were amongst the afternoon starters.
