Irish Open set for Stadium atmosphere

The countdown is on for the most anticipated sporting event of the summer, the 2013 Irish Open, and to celebrate this year’s event, The European Tour will convert the 17th hole into a rousing ‘spectator stadium’ and re-name it ‘Open House@17’.

The new 17th Grandstand at Carton House for the 2013 Irish Open

The famous Irish golf tournament will take place from June 27-30 at Carton House Golf Club, where the luxury resort will be transformed with festivities on and off the golf course.

The 17th hole will include an imposing grandstand seating almost 1,500 fans enveloping the picturesque penultimate hole of the Montgomerie Course, where fans can cheer the shots from the famous names, as they watch all of the drama unfold.

This grandstand is set to be the exciting, atmospheric ‘hub’ of the tournament where the ‘who’s who’ of spectators will gather and cheer on their golfing heroes.

A Big screen will be erected at the 17th hole allowing spectators to watch all of the action as it happens around the course, along with a live tweet feed for spectators to describe the exciting atmosphere and tweet updates to those watching!

This will also include live twitter competitions that will give golfing enthusiasts a chance to play a shot on the 17th itself and show the professionals how it’s done.

Fans can now reserve their seat in the 17th hole grandstand for just €10 per day. Remember – it’s Father’s Day on June 16 and a seat in the stand would be ‘just the ticket’ to celebrate the day. Spectators will be a given a VIP wristband that grants access to the grandstand throughout the event with additional benefits such as:

•    Fast track at the food stands and experiential outlets in the tented village

•    Preference parking on Carton House grounds

•    Food and Beverage discounts

Spectators will be encouraged to show their support for all the players and offer a rapturous reception by creating an electric atmosphere when they take on the 17th hole, with the River Rye running down the right hand side adding further jeopardy and drama.

The 2013 Irish Open will celebrate and welcome home the best of Irish and world golf. Four Irish Major Champions – Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy  - will compete at Carton House along with Carton’s Touring Professional and previous Irish Open Champion, Shane Lowry, a host of Tour winners and Ryder Cup stars plus 2014 captain Paul McGinley and his 2012 predecessor José Maria Olazábal, creating a superb platform for this year’s event.
