Injury holds back Dyson

Simon Dyson was left cursing a recurrence of back trouble as he tumbled off the leaderboard at the US PGA Championship in Atlanta.

The Irish Open champion was in a share of fourth place at three under after seven holes, but then double-bogeyed the next and the 11th as he fell back to level par with a 72.

"I started off really nice and then my back went on eight," said Dyson, who was close to having a cortisone injection before he finished ninth in The Open Championship three weeks ago.

"I've been suffering. It's just really painful and I didn't really commit to many drives after that.

"You would think with the heat that it would loosen it up, but it doesn't. I'm just going to rest it and have a nice hot bath."

Last year's US Open Champion Graeme McDowell had no excuses for a 78 that sent him out of the event on 12 over.

"The game is just kicking me right now," said the Ulsterman, who also missed the cut in The Open. "The game is just not there."
