The Road to Mallorca travels to Sweden for the first time this season as the Indoor Golf Group Challenge takes place at Landeryds Golfklubb - Vesterby Links. Here are three players to keep an eye on…
Form horse - Joakim Lagergren
Joakim Lagergren returned to the Challenge Tour winner’s circle after almost a decade following his triumph at the Irish Challenge earlier this month.
The Swede’s victory, which was sealed in spectacular fashion with a chip-in at the final hole, followed a third-place finish at the Black Desert NI Open presented by Tom McKibbin, and the 32-year-old will have high hopes of being in contention once again on home soil this week.
Local boy – Jesper Sandborg
Jesper Sandborg is teeing it up on his home course this week for his first start on the 2024 Road to Mallorca, and he will certainly be one to watch given his form on the Nordic Golf League this season.
The 31-year-old, who played two full seasons on the Challenge Tour in 2021 & 2022, currently lies fifth on the satellite tour’s Order of Merit and has already secured a pair of triumphs in just 11 starts this season, including a three-stroke victory at Vesterby Links in the PGA Championship Landeryd Masters earlier this year.
The outsider – Ryan Lumsden
Ryan Lumsden arrives in Sweden playing his best golf of the season, having recorded a pair of top ten finishes so far in August at the Irish Challenge and Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union.
The Scot, who is playing his second season on the Challenge Tour, enters the Indoor Golf Group Challenge lying 55th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, and will need to maintain his good form to put himself in position for a top 20 finish at the end of the season and promotion to the DP World Tour.
