Organizers of the inaugural Shankai Classic have announced that China-focused investment firm IDG Capital Partners has signed on as presenting sponsor of the US$350,000 European Challenge Tour event.
The tournament, which will be played at Chongqing Poly Golf Club from 16-19 October, is set to become the first international golf event to have ever been staged in China’s most populous municipality, one that has been boosted by the recent announcement that it will form the first leg of the Challenge Tour’s new season-ending Final Swing, a series of four big-money events that are set to play a crucial role in determining the top 15 in the Rankings, who will graduate to The European Tour in 2015.
In addition to the Shankai Classic presented by IDG, the Final Swing will comprise the Foshan Open in Guangdong province, the National Bank of Oman Classic, which will be held in Muscat, and the Dubai Festival City Challenge Tour Grand Final hosted by Al Badia Golf Club.
“To have IDG Capital Partners come on board as presenting sponsor is a great boost for the tournament,” said Feng Tao, CEO of Shankai Sports. “It’s going to be an exciting week and a key milestone in the development of golf in Chongqing.”
Sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and the China Golf Association, the Shankai Classic presented by IDG will feature a strong field of international and Chinese stars, each vying for the US$56,000 winner’s cheque.
