Many of the world’s best players have enjoyed the immaculately prepared, challenging championship course at Sheshan since the inaugural tournament in November 2005, as well as all that the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai has to offer.

Two-time champion and winner of four Majors Phil Mickelson said: “This is great news and will be a very popular decision among the players. The Sheshan International Club has done a tremendous job of welcoming us to China and ensuring the course is always in excellent condition. It’s a challenging yet fair layout that has been a great host to Asia’s only WGC event and with one of the world’s top fields, I’m sure that once again we’ll have an excellent and exciting WGC-HSBC leaderboard on Sunday.”

Richard Cheung, Chairman of Shanghai Sheshan International Golf Club, added: “We are delighted to confirm today that we will be hosting the 2011 WGC-HSBC Champions. This will be our seventh consecutive year as host of this world-class championship and we are very proud that our club and course are so well received by so many of the world’s best players. As always, we are working hard to ensure everything is perfect for the arrival of the golfers at the start of November.”

Giles Morgan, Group Head of Sponsorship at HSBC, said: “Sheshan has become synonymous with the HSBC Champions and some of the holes, like the short par-four 16th and the dramatic lakeside 18th, are beginning to gain the kind of fame with golf fans that we believe will one day make them as world-renowned as legends in the game like The Road Hole and Amen Corner.

“Of course, the venue is very important to the players but as a title sponsor, it is important that it can also deliver the right quality and service to our guests and clients. Over the past six years, the Sheshan International Golf Club has done an absolutely wonderful job in hosting HSBC staff and customers, the players as well as providing a wonderful showcase for Shanghai. ”

Robbie Henchman, MD IMG Golf, added: “Sheshan International Club has proved an exceedingly popular venue and we are very happy to announce today that we will be returning there for yet another enthralling edition of the WGC-HSBC Champions this November. Everything from the course to the clubhouse facilities are of the highest quality and provide a fantastic stage for the world’s best players to do battle for this coveted title.”

The HSBC Champions is one of four World Golf Championships sanctioned and organised by the operational committee of the International Federation of PGA Tours, which includes the Asian Tour, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR, PGA Tour of Australasia and Sunshine Tour.  The other World Golf Championships are the Accenture Match Play Championship, Cadillac Championship and the Bridgestone Invitational.

The 2011 WGC-HSBC Champions boasts a prize fund of $7,000,000.
