Horsey charges into contention

David Horsey took over as the front-runner as Adrian Otaegui stumbled midway through the third round of the Tshwane Open in South Africa.

Otaegui had taken control at Pretoria Country Club with a brilliant second round 62, but found himself two over through 13 holes and subsequently replaced at the top of the leaderboard.

England’s Horsey had reeled off seven straight pars to start his round, but birdied the eighth and ninth to turn in 33 and after a first bogey of the day at the 11th picked up another shot on the long 12th to reach ten under par.

That was one ahead of clubhouse leader Craig Lee, home favourite Wallie Coetsee and Spain’s Otaegui.

Scotland’s Lee carded a 66 to set a nine under par mark, while recent Joburg Open runner-up Coetsee was two under for his round approaching the last.

Otaegui – who narrowly failed to keep his card via The Race to Dubai last season but got it straight back at Qualifying School – bogeyed the third after a poor drive but briefly went three clear with birdies from close range at the sixth and eighth.

However, the former amateur star then bogeyed the ninth after two poor chips having flown the green with his second, and dropped shot on consecutive holes after leaking his tee shot left at the tenth.

A 20 footer at the 12th saw Otaegui save par, but he missed a close-range par putt at the next for a fourth bogey of the day.
