Thousands of people turned out to watch home hopes Greg Snow and Dismas Indiza on moving day at the Barclays Kenya Open and those numbers are set to increase dramatically for the final day in the hope that history can be made at Karen Country Club.
Snow sits just one shot off the lead after signing for a one under par 71 which left him at seven under for the tournament, while Indiza charged up the leaderboard, carding nine birdies on the way to a four under 68 in difficult conditions to move to within two of the summit.
No Kenyan has ever won this event since it began in 1967 - Jacob Okello came closest to becoming the first home grown player to win the prestigious event back in 1998 when he was beaten in a play-off by Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez - so Snow and Indiza carry the hopes of a nation in Nairobi.
The two local favourites have been paired together in the final round and the fans are sure to come out in their droves to watch the local heroes try to create history.
While Snow has been in contention early on in this tournament a couple of times in recent years, he has never come this close and he admitted that he cannot wait to feed off the energy of the crowd on championship Sunday.
“From my experience of last year, I've taken that on board this year,” said the 24 year old. “I'm starting to get the gist of it and learning how to deal with it.
“Having such huge support come out has had its advantages and its disadvantages but I think it’s a good thing, seeing all these people come out here and support the local players.
“I do feel a responsibility in some ways, to represent Kenya. It’s a big responsibility to be honest with you but I just want to focus on my game and hopefully I can do something tomorrow. If I play the way I played today I think I will be in with a chance.”
