Home comforts for Lagergren at Nordea Masters

Swede Joakim Lagergren is looking forward to playing in front of home crowds at this week's Nordea Masters.

Lagergren arrives at Hills Golf Club in Gothenburg looking for his second European Tour title after recording his maiden victory at the Rocco Forte Sicilian Open in May.

The 26 year old is among the strong contingent of Swedish players in the field this week, and he is delighted to be home.

He said: "It's great to be back on home soil and playing in front of a Swedish crowd, family and friends.

"Sometimes you want a bit too much and you might put too much pressure on yourself because you are home.

"I always want to play well so it's important to find a good level of play.

"It's hard to say how my form is. I last played at the Scottish Open, played well and have had three weeks of holiday.

"I trained a week before now so I'm getting more comfortable every day."

Lagergren secured his first European Tour crown by seeing off Mike Lorenzo-Vera in a play-off at Verdura Golf Club on the Sicilian coast earlier in the year.

He described winning as a dream come true.

"It's been a dream of mine since I was a kid," he said. "I think I was 12 or 13 when I set the goal of a European Tour win.

"It was a really special feeling winning in Italy. It's hard to describe because there were so many emotions."

Another home player with a win to his name this year is Alexander Björk, who secured his first title at the Volvo China Open in April.

Björk has since recorded three top-20 finishes at Rolex Series events - the HNA Open de France, Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation and Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

But he struggled in America in recent weeks, finishing in a tie for 48th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational before missing the cut at last week's US PGA Championship.

The 28 year old is hoping to return to the top of his game on home soil this week.

He said: "The first victory on the European Tour felt really big and it was also a real boost for my self-confidence and my career.

"I was pretty calm the last round of the Volvo China Open, got quite excited in the end and you can feel the pulse increasing. Then you have to try to stay calm, walk a bit slower and try to rest your mind.

"I am not very happy about how I have played lately in the States. It's fun with big tournaments and loads of spectators but I get a little disappointed when I can’t play well.

"But I really do think that when I am on top of my game I can be on the top of the leaderboards.

"I need to be on top of my game so I'll get a lot of rest and good practice to be ready on Thursday when it all starts."
