The Australian is looking for his second European Tour win in just his 20th event following victory at the Australian PGA Championship in December and missed a short putt to bogey the first and drop to 12 under after three holes at Royal Selangor Golf Club.

Playing partner Richard Bland, seeking a first victory in his 378th start, dropped his first shot of the week at the second to get the lead back to two and he was joined at ten under by Tabuena.

The Filipino made birdie putts of around ten feet at the first and second as Holman found the water on the third but recovered well to save his par.

Jorge Campillo and Soomin Lee were then at nine under having picked up a single shot in their first four holes with Marcus Fraser, Masahiro Kawamura and Danny Willett a further shot back.

Scot Stephen Gallacher made the turn in 32 to get to seven under where he was joined by Lucas Bjerregaard, who had an eagle on the third.

Thongchai Jaidee, seven under coming into the day, had withdrawn prior to his 0955 tee time due to illness.
