History - The Scottish Open

Luke Donald braved wind and rain to pick up his second title of 2011 with a 54-hole victory on The European Tour’s first visit to Castle Stuart Golf Links. It certainly was stereotypical Scottish weather but it, and the resulting delays in play, could not derail the Englishman’s seemingly serene path to victory. The Tour returns to Castle Stuart in 2012, having spent 15 years at Loch Lomond GC, and having previously been held at Carnoustie, Gleneagles, Haggs Castle, St Andrews and Downfield GC since the first event in 1972. In recent years, with its proximity to The Open Championship the following week and its often picturesque and testing venues, this event tends to assemble one of the strongest fields of the season.
