The Italian Challenge will take place from June 30 to July 3, 2022. It was first played on the Challenge Tour in 2007 when Sweden's Mikael Lundberg triumphed at Le Pavoniere.
Molinari seals the treble
Edoardo Molinari captured his third Challenge Tour title of the 2009 season at the Italian Federation Cup, after winning the Piemonte Open and Kazakhstan Open earlier in the year. The Italian went on to top the Challenge Tour Rankings in 2009 with a then-record season total of €242,979 earnings for the year.
Molinari has since won three DP World Tour titles and played in the 2010 victorious Ryder Cup team, alongside his younger brother Francesco.
Gouveia makes long-awaited return to winner’s circle
Ricardo Gouveia posted a seven under par final round of 64 to secure his fourth Challenge Tour title at the Italian Challenge, six years on from his last victory at the 2015 NBO Golf Classic Grand Final when he became the first Portuguese player to top the Challenge Tour Rankings.
The victory was Gouveia’s second at the Italian Challenge after winning the event in 2014 in just his seventh event as a professional.
The Portuguese went on to win again in 2021 at the Made in Esbjerg Challenge – Presented by FREJA & TotalEnergies, his fifth Challenge Tour title, on his way to securing DP World Tour playing rights.
