Harwood toasts home success

European Senior Tour Member Mike Harwood enjoyed some success in his homeland by winning the 2010 Queensland Senior PGA Championship in Australia.

After a six under par 66 in the first round, Harwood looked in complete control with three birdies in his opening nine holes before hitting problems on the back nine.

Harwood finished bogey, double bogey for a two round total of four-under, one stroke clear of Larry Canning.

It followed his maiden European Senior Tour title in last season’s OKI Castellón Senior Tour Championship which led to him being named Rookie of the Year.

“Having won in Europe has helped me get the bug back because the feeling of winning is very infectious, and it only makes you even more eager to win again.”

Harwood will be looking for more success on home soil when he is part of the field for the Handa Australian Senior Open to be played from November 19-21 at Royal Perth Golf Club. He is the defending champion having captured the title last year.

It will be the first time the event is part of the Senior Tour schedule and will be the first event to count towards the 2011 European Senior Tour Order of Merit.
