Harrington edges clear in Prague

Padraig Harrington made an early birdie to open up a two-shot lead in the final round of the D+D Real Czech Masters.

The three-time Major Championship winner entered the day at Albatross Golf Resort in a share for the lead with Andrea Pavan but with the Italian bogeying the second, Harrington found himself two clear at 18 under.

Malaysia's Gavin Green, Scotland's Scott Jamieson, Thai Phachara Khongwatmai and Englishman Lee Slattery were then at 14 under.

Harrington's victory at the 2016 Portugal Masters was his first on the European Tour since the 2008 US PGA Championship but he is going in search of a 16th win in an 11th country this afternoon.

This week's performance represents a brilliant return to form for the Ryder Cup Vice Captain, who had made just one cut this season at the Italian Open before he arrived in Prague.

Jamieson found sand off the first tee but recovered well to birdie the par five and join Green three off the lead.

Harrington found the same trap and was forced to lay up but got up and down, holing from around 15 feet to lead on his own.

Pavan dropped a shot on the second and with Harrington saving par after a ragged tee-shot, the lead was two shots.

Slattery birdied the first and third and did well to make another gain out of the bunker on the fifth, while Khongwatmai had gains on the second and third.

Green began his day with four pars.

Belgian Thomas Pieters, Englishman Aaron Rai and Swede Pontus Widegren were then at 13 under.

Pieters has a win and second-place here in the last three seasons and he started eagle-birdie but then bogeyed the third and fifth before birdieing the sixth as he looks to impress Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn.

Widegren was six under through 16 holes, while Rai had picked up four shots in his first 11.

Australian Scott Hend had gone out with a marker and he completed a round of 73 in a remarkable one hour and 56 minutes in the morning.
