Peter Hanson looked set for a comprehensive win at the BMW Masters as the Swede took a four shot lead into the closing stretch at Lake Malaren.
The Ryder Cup star turned in a two under par 34 then fired a hattrick of birdies from the 11th to leave the rest of the star-studded field trailing in his wake.
One ahead of World Number One Rory McIlroy at the start of the final round, Hanson extended his advantage with a birdie from five feet at the second.
The KLM Open winner went three ahead when his playing partner missed from three feet for par at the fourth.
McIlroy bogeyed the fifth after missing from four feet, but the Northern Irishman responded with a tee shot to 15 inches at the sixth and the subsequent birdie saw him get the gap back to three.
Hanson went four in front when he reached the par five seventh in two and two-putted, then holed from eight feet at the 11th to start a run of three successive gains to reach 21 under par.
McIlroy matched two of them, but the US PGA Champion was four behind in second with only five holes left to play.
Ian Poulter was a brilliant seven under for the day with one hole to play, and by reaching 16 under he joined South African George Coetzee in a tie for third.
McIlroy showed he had not given up the chase with a brilliant second to 15 feet at the par five 15th. He sunk the resulting eagle putt, and although Hanson got up and down from a greenside bunker for birdie, McIlroy birdied the next to cut the gap to two.
