Hanson in the hunt

Sweden’s Peter Hanson made an early move to the top of the Porsche European Open leaderboard when the third round began in Germany.

The former Ryder Cup star had six birdies in a flawless first 14 holes at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, including a hat-trick of gains from the tenth.

That took him to ten under par and level with overnight co-leaders Ross Fisher, Charl Schwartzel and Graeme Storm, all of whom were yet to tee off.

Hanson’s playing partner Lasse Jensen was also going along nicely, the Dane having ignited the pair’s charge when he aced the second with a six iron.

A birdie at the eighth was followed by a double bogey at the next to undo much of his good work, but the Qualifying School graduate – who has never finished higher than seventh on The European Tour – reeled off four straight birdies at the start of the back nine to reach nine under.

Sweden’s Pelle Edberg and England’s James Morrison had also moved into a share of fifth, with Rikard Karlberg a shot further back coming down the last as he looked to set the clubhouse target.
