Gustafsson gunning for glory in Malmo

Sweden’s Peter Gustafsson will contest The Princess by Schüco on home soil this week hoping to go one better than last year, when he was runner-up to Thorbjorn Olesen at Båstad Golf Club.

This year the event is at the stunning PGA of Sweden National in Malmö – a course unfamiliar to Gustafsson – but the 34 year old has an extra spring in his step following his second place finish in the Saint Omer Open presented by Neuflize a fortnight ago.

“I have high hopes every week, but of course it’s always nice to play in your home country and I’m hoping for another good week in Sweden,” said the Swede. “Maybe this time I can go one better.

“My form at the moment is pretty good. Finishing second in Saint Omer has given me a lot more confidence so I’d love to carry it on and have a great week here.”

“Today was the first time I have played the course. I walked it a little bit yesterday but played in the pro-am today. It’s a very good course, very American in its design. The greens are extraordinary so it should be a good week.

“I’m not sure it will be a 25 under sort of course. I think if you’re level par you’re doing very well.

“Malmö is a great place and there’s plenty to do when you’re not playing golf. There’s a little square with lots of good bars and restaurants. I have my mother here with me this week though so she will make sure I behave myself!”
