Granberg continues fine form at Linna Golf

Joonas Granberg continued his good form of 2013 with victory in the Audi PGA Finland Championship, played at European Tour Course Linna Golf, near Helsinki.

The Finnish professional, who this year has secured two top 15 finishes on The European Tour in the Maybank Malaysian Open and Avantha Masters, secured victory in his national PGA Championship after a play-off with Henri Satama.

Linna Golf, which has firmly established itself as one of continental Europe’s best courses, with the Championship course weaving its way through some of Finland’s pine and birch forests, played host to the 56-man event over three days.

Designed by Tim Lobb with European Golf Design, Linna Golf has been part of the European Tour Properties network of world-class venues for the past ten years and, according to Jeremey Slessor, Managing Director of EGD, has matured well after construction.

“A good course is like a comfortable pair of shoes that takes shape in use,” said Slessor, who experienced the excellent condition of the course first hand in the pre-tournament Pro-Am.

He added: “The course is well suited to both professionals and amateurs alike, which is not an easy balance to strike. Here, every fairway has at least two different angles which make the course interesting and challenging. You have to keep looking for any weaknesses and rectify them quickly and the management and staff at Linna are very good at that. ”

David MacLaren, The European Tour’s Director of Property and Venue Development, also played in the Pro-Am.

He added: “Linna Golf has been part of our network for almost a decade and I have witnessed it growing into one the of finest golf courses in Europe.  Beautiful surroundings alone are not enough, and this venue offers an excellent layout which works well alongside other services.”

Amateurs from across Europe will also have the opportunity to experience the delights of Linna Golf in July 2014, when the club will host the European Amateur Team Championship. With the best 16 countries in Europe fielding teams of six players, the results will determine selections for the 2014 World Golf Championships.

“We look forward to welcoming this prestigious event next year,” said Petri Keskitalo, Executive Director of Linna Golf. “Team Finland’s goal is a top eight finish!”
