GolfSixes - Ireland's road to victory

Ireland put on a dominant display over two days at Centurion Club to win the second edition of the GolfSixes.

Paul Dunne and Gavin Moynihan lost only one of their six matches, winning 12 holes and losing just three, with 20 birdies or better and two bogeys.

Here, we take a closer look at the six matches that saw them crowned GolfSixes champions.

Group Stages

The pair started as they meant to go on with a 3-0 victory over Scotland proving to be their biggest of the week. They went birdie-birdie on the second and third to go 2-0 up after three and when the fifth was halved in birdies, they had an unassailable lead before eagling the last to be five under for six holes.

Their second match on Saturday would be their only loss but one they would avenge in the final. Moynihan's stunning tee-shot on the first put them 1-0 ahead against France but a par was enough to hand their opponents the next before Mike Lorenzo-Vera and Romain Wattel birdied the last.

With all still to play for in the final session in Group C, Dunne and Moynihan held their nerve to eagle the third and birdie the fourth in a 2-0 win over the Italian team of Edoardo Molinari and Renato Paratore.

Quarter-final - Beat England Women 2-0

Georgia Hall and Charley Hull were living dangerously in the early stages, needing an up-and-down from a nasty lie to par the first and seeing Moynihan miss an excellent birdie opportunity on the second. The third was halved in birdies but an excellent approach from Moynihan set up an Irish birdie on the fourth for a 1-0 lead and when he hit a tee-shot to concession range on the fifth, the contest was over.

Semi-final - Beat South Korea on the play-off hole

Both South Korean tee-shots missed the green on the first but Jeunghun Wang chipped in to pile the pressure on Dunne, who holed his putt to keep it 0-0. A poor chip on the second led to a South Korean bogey and a 1-0 Irish lead but with both teams missing the green on the fourth and only the South Koreans getting up and down for par, the match was guaranteed to go up the last. Soomin Lee hit the closest tee-shot on the fifth but Dunne made a birdie to put the pressure on Wang who followed him in, with Lee then stepping up and holing a five-foot birdie putt on the sixth to send us to the play-off hole. South Korea were the favourites after the tee-shots but Moynihan holed a chip to heap the pressure on Wang and the three-time European Tour winner could not make his birdie.

Final - Beat France 2-0

Dunne got Ireland off to a flier, putting his tee-shot to the first to three feet for a birdie and a 1-0 lead. Lorenzo-Vera holed a 25-footer on the second for a French birdie but Dunne hit back from 12 feet and the score stayed at 1-0 with the hole halved. Ireland got on the green at the par five third in two and when Lorenzo-Vera put France's second into trouble on the right and they needed two more blows to get on the green, the hole was conceded. Both teams parred the fourth with Wattel making a clutch putt and while he did the same on the fifth, Dunne followed him in to seal victory with a half.
