The legendary French golfer, who represented Team Europe in The 1999 Ryder Cup — the ‘Battle of Brookline’ — will be making his fifth-career start on the Staysure Tour when he tees it up in Germany’s premier over-50s golf event.

After his infamous finish to the 1999 Open Championship at the famed Carnoustie Golf Links, the site of this year’s 147thOpen Championship, Van de Velde endeared himself to golfing fans around the world with his sportsmanship and class in handling the heart-breaking defeat.

The 52 year old will enter a two week stretch hungry for his first win on the over-50s circuit.

Now in its seventh-consecutive year on the Staysure Tour International Schedule, the WINSTONgolf Senior Open has found a popular home in the unique WINSTONlinks lay-out, which features a demanding links-style golf course situated on a scenic parkland property.

Van de Velde will be joined by several of the event’s past-champions who are set to return for the 2018 edition, as well as winning Ryder Cup Captains Paul McGinley and Ian Woosnam.

In all, there will be 13 players competing in the WINSTONgolf Senior Open who have represented Europe at The Ryder Cup, including Costantino Rocca, Des Smyth, Ronan Rafferty, and Peter Baker.

Further adding to the star-studded field is Great Britain and Ireland’s all-time Walker Cup point-winner, Gary Wolstenholme.

Every player in the elite 60-man field will be hungry to take home the lion’s share of the €350,000 prize fund as the Staysure Tour Members compete for their place in the MCB Tour Championship Final Series.
