Genworth Stats Pack - Trophée Hassan II Preview

This week the Genworth Stats Pack heads to Morocco for the Trophée Hassan II, held at the exclusive Golf du Palais Royal, set in the grounds of the Royal Palace of Agadir. Past winners Rhys Davies (2010), David Horsey (2011) and Michael Hoey (2012) are all competing. We analyse some of the marquee names as well as those with recent form coming into the event.

Francesco MOLINARI

Francesco Molinari is lightly raced so far in 2013 having played just four events on the European Tour, so his Genworth Statistics have not really settled as of yet. But as usual the younger of the two Italian brothers is ranking well for Driving Accuracy and he is already showing good form on the greens. This will be Francesco’s third time of competing in the Trophée Hassan II, with finishes of 10th in 2010 and 17th in 2012. He will start as the tournament favourite.

Edoardo MOLINARI

The older of the two Italian brothers has been making swing changes with coach Sean Foley over the winter, and after a slow start to the 2013 season, those changes look to be taking effect. Edoardo was very strong from tee to green last week in Malaysia, ranking 14th for Driving Accuracy, 9th for Driving Distance and 4th for Greens in Regulation, plus the two-time European Tour winner also finished 6th here last year. We look for him to go well.

Rafa CABRERA-BELLO

Rafa Cabrera-Bello has competed in this event twice before (in 2010/11) with very average results it must be said. But the 28 year old Spanish golfer and two-time European Tour winner is performing consistently week on week in the early season. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, Rafa is hitting 76.9% Greens in Regulation which is enabling him to convert a good number of birdies whilst limiting any mistakes. His Par 3 Scoring and Par 4 Scoring is excellent.

Ambassador

Pablo LARRAZÁBAL

Genworth Ambassador Pablo Larrazábal has competed in this event on all three previous occasions, with a best of 9th last year. The 29 year old Spanish golfer is showing some good recent form, especially in Malaysia last week where he finished 6th (ranking 3rd for the Genworth Driving Distance statistic, 11th for Greens in Regulation and 1st for Par 4 Scoring).

Alvaro QUIROS

This will be the third straight week back following wrist surgery and a three month lay-off for Alvaro Quiros. All is progressing well. The 30 year old crowd favourite has already jumped to the top of the Genworth Driving Distance rankings, averaging 320 yards off the tee, and he is destroying the Par 5 holes with a 4.54 scoring average (in doing so hitting 32.1% of the greens in sub-regulation two shots).

Garth MULROY

Garth Mulroy is one of the form players coming into this event. The 34 year old South African has achieved three top ten finishes so far this season and he is yet to miss the cut from eight starts. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, Garth ranks 8th for Stroke Average (better than any other player in the field), 7th for Putts per GIR and 10th for Birdies per Round, and he is scoring well across the different hole types being the Par 3’s, Par 4’s and par 5’s.

David HOWELL

David Howell has competed in this event twice before (in 2010/11) but missed the cut here last year. The 37 year old Englishman is performing very consistently week on week and showing signs of the form that previously took him into the world top ten. His long game is solid but his short game and putting statistics are exceptional. Very few mistakes are being made and a Genworth Season Stroke Average of 69.41 is the result. David arrives off the back of a 6th place finish in Malaysia so expect a strong performance once again.

Tommy FLEETWOOD

Tommy Fleetwood is another player showing great consistency this year, finishing inside the top 15 in four of his last five starts. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 22 year old Englishman is excelling on the Par 5 holes, hitting 21.6% of the Par 5 greens in sub-regulation (two shots) on his way to a scoring average of 4.56. A good week on the greens could see him right up there in contention come Sunday.

Scott JAMIESON

Scott Jamieson enjoyed an incredible start to the 2013 season with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish in his first three events. A couple of missed cuts followed that but the 29 year old Scotsman has been very steady the last three times out. At this tournament in 2011 he missed the cut and in 2012 he finished 52nd, so Scott will be looking for better things this week.

Felipe Aguilar has competed in this event twice before with a best finish of 44th last year. Although the 38 year old golfer from Chile arrives off the back of a missed cut at the Avantha Masters, he produced consecutive 3rd place finishes at the two events prior to that. Looking his Genworth Season Statistics, Felipe ranks 34th for Stroke Average and 26th for Driving Accuracy, and he is yet to make a double bogey from 16 rounds played so far.
