Genworth Stats Pack - Round 3 Review

Chris Wood fired 7 birdies and an eagle during his impressive round of 64 to jump out in front by three shots. With just 18 holes to go, he ranks 1st for Par 4 Scoring and he has made more birdies than any other player in the field (18 in total). Just about every department of Chris’s game is performing well. If he keeps it going he will be hard to catch.

Simon Khan single putted his first 7 holes for a very quick start to his 3rd round. He finished with 64, enjoying his second bogey free round of the week. Interestingly, of the players that have made the cut, Simon ranks 1st for Driving Accuracy but 71st (nearly last) for Driving Distance. What a great advert for the distance versus accuracy debate. Surely accuracy wins this one.

Statistically, Alexander Noren’s driving has been quite average over the first three rounds, but he has still managed to hit 44/54 Greens in Regulation (81.5%). And of the 10 greens that he has missed he has Scrambled 8 times. With only 2 bogeys made overall for the tournament so far, and a decent back nine today, Alexander goes into the final round with a great chance.

Michael Campbell has been playing with more consistency over the past few months. The 43 year old (44 in a few weeks) is not the longest hitter on tour nowadays (as we can see by his Genworth Statistics), but the rest of his game is very strong. Going into the last round he ranks 6th in Driving Accuracy, 20th in Greens in Regulation, 4th in Scrambles and 13th in Putts per Round.

Two dropped shots in the last four holes put a cloud over an otherwise very good round for Sergio Garcia. But he is still well within striking distance of the lead with 18 holes to go. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, he is driving the ball long and straight, and he ranks 5th for Greens in Regulation. Even his putting is solid. There is no reason why Sergio shouldn’t go low tomorrow.

Branden Grace shot to fame with four victories in 2012 as a relative unknown. Through the year it was almost win or bust, with him either winning or finishing down the field (he achieved just two top ten finishes other than his wins). This year however things are different. He seems to be performing strongly week on week. His 2013 finishes so far are 39th, 12th, 7th and 5th, and he may well keep the forward trend going tomorrow. One thing’s for sure, he won’t back down.
